so what are the numbers these days? one in every 150 to one in every 95 children born today are diagnosed with autism. when i think about it at first, that may not seem like that many. in theory i would have to meet anywhere from 95 to 150 people a day to meet just one that was autistic. when do i meet that many people in a day? not very often, perhaps i have never met that many people in one day.
but within the last 24 hours i have met three new people who all have a loved one in their life with autism.
first was the lady at publix last night.
To Cherish Him

There was an incident over the summer this year that I didn't mention much about. I touched on it briefly in another post closer to the date of the event. Now I'm ready to talk about it; The ATV accident. No joking. This was a serious, emotional event for our family.
We were all at a friends house. They live on a farm/ranch so animals were everywhere and Braden loves animals. He loved walking after the rooster, intimidating the poor thing, until my son turned his back and the rooster immediately turned the tables, coming after my son and attacking him. But he got over it soon enough. I knew roosters were capable of that. When I was a kid my family had a rooster. I failed as a parent to protect my son from that damn rooster on this day.

Yesterday was one of those days when nothing satisfied my son. He didn't want to go on a walk. He didn't want to go on a bike ride. He didn't want me to play with him in his bedroom. He didn't want to watch Word World or Clifford or basketball. All of those are things he's usually excited to do. It wasn't just that though - he was visibly unhappy and "pouty".
What was wrong with him? Why was he malcontent?
what to expect?

hi,
so tomorrow is halloween, happy new years to any pagans out there! anyway, we have been contemplating on whether or not we are going to take esmond trick-or-treating. so many questions....mmm.
while esmond's running is getting better, he is still a runner. what if he happens to get away from us? do we really want to take a leash with us for him? i really don't want to do that although we probably wouldn't get as many weird looks because of the holiday. people may think it's part of a costume.
