Mom was out of town this last weekend. So it was only me and my boy all weekend. I loved it! And most of the weekend was cake and pie as I'd say. I kept the boy busy and we had fun. But two times he had behaviors accompanied with hitting and kicking and screaming and disobeying.
The first behavior was outside a burger restaurant. We just got back from a nice long bike ride and I wanted a nice fat burger for dinner. Since we had to wait, Braden threw a fit. He's not too keen on waiting.
Talking to the Dog

My son talks to his dog more than he talks to us. And the past few days he has started to say things we never heard him say before... talking to the dog of course. Just this morning when the dog (Lucy) was outside Braden was looking for her. But it was still dark outside and he couldn't see where she was. But he knew she was outside. Braden said, "I don't see her!"
That statement alone was tremendous! Not only did he say something we never heard him say before, but this was also spontaneous speech. It wasn't echolalia. He never heard either my wife or myself say this before. ALSO he used two pronouns correctly! WHOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!
That's my boy! Just thought I'd share this! Oh, and if you want to know our family a little better here's our YouTube channel. Watch some short videos! I just posted a new one today.
something good from the swine flu

hello all!
i think i have found something good about the swine flu. yea for me!
for so long there has been a debate about whether or not vaccinations are the cause of autism. despite the removal of mercury from vaccinations and the endless studies showing no link between vaccinations and autism, the debate has been strong.
now finally, we have an epidemic that is making parents question the question.
Lucy Gets Attention

Last week me and my family went on a nice little vacation trip up the Oregon Coast. It was beautiful. We had never been up that way before. We saw Bandon, Newport, Portland, Ashland, and more. And it was our first time vacationing with our autism service dog (in training), Lucy.
Lucy saw the inside of many malls and shopping centers. It was a great experience for her to be around all those people and all that noise. It was nothing new to her. She was calm, collected, and care-free... until she saw the escalators and the glass railing on the second story.
