How much therapy is enough? Where's the line between getting your child all the help he needs versus just allowing him to be another kid? Isn't there value in keeping him in the class surrounded by other children? Is it possible that other children are learning from him as he's learning from them? When do we accept who our kids are and stop trying to change them? Are we trying to prove that we're good parents or are we doing what's best for our kids?
new year, new hope

happy new year to everyone out there!
ours was quiet. i know i fell asleep before 11:30! the first day of the new year was also quite peaceful. as i recall, all of us spent the day in our jammies.
this new year means a new and important birthday; esmond's third birthday. the last days of therapy for our little boy are fast approaching. this is stressful in a few different ways.
first, where do we now turn for help? this is both a educational and social concern of mine. i may have mentioned before that we have always planned on home-schooling our children. for maxie the challenge is not all that worrisome because she is a typical, neurologically speaking, child. both my husband and i are educated people. we have never had a doubt that we can give her an excellent education and address the social issues by enrolling her in a dance or by having her join girl scouts. however, with esmond it is a whole different story.

Gifts were given, smiles were seen, and God was glorified. And then 2010 arrived. Maybe this year will be a year without autism? Fat chance!
Well, although Christmas is not about gifts (or Santa Clause), the verdict is in regarding which gift was the biggest hit with my son this year. And yes, I've included pictures.
Nurnberg Times 2009

We do this every year. I write the Christmas letter and get the pics ready, my wife fills out the cards, addresses the envelopes, and mails 'em out... to 40+ family and friends. This year people got quite a kick out of the Christmas letter, which I always call the Nurnberg Times. So I decided to post it here for all to read. I hope you enjoy it!
Hello all. Surely you noticed right off the bat this year's letter is a special collector’s edition. So when you're done reading it don't be ashamed to have it laminated and hung on your living room wall. After all, this is the only Nurnberg Times Collector’s Edition to date and it comes with a limited edition Edward Cullen action figure. (If you didn't get the action figure call Mattel Inc. and file a complaint.)
According to the Chinese Calendar 2009 is the year of the ox. For the Nurnberg Fam 2009 was the year of the dog.
